The Atonement and Tender Mercies

We’ve done a lot of English this week so there’s not much exciting news. But my testimony has been strengthened a lot by a combination of a lot of things I’ve been seeing.

One thing I wish I could express to you properly is just how much commandments are tender mercies. They are instructions from a loving God to keep us happy. I’ve walked out of lessons with less-actives and members this week several times with the primary song words sinking heavy into my heart “Keep the commandments, keep the commandments, in this there is safety, in this there is peace…” and knowing the bad situations they had found themselves in only happened because of their own poor choices. I wish that somehow explaining what I know about commandments could help people really understand them more than it does. But in the end you only feel the Spirit when you’re open to it. (see 1 Nephi 8:37)

Luckily though, I have seen miraculous changes and light come into some of these situations because, through the merciful plan of the Father, there is a way out even when you’ve made mistakes. Christ and the power that comes from His Atoning sacrifice of perfect love can be like wings to lift us up out of the darkness that we fall or willingly throw ourselves into. The only thing He asks us to do is commit. Choose to make your life better than it is right now. Choose to align your will with the Father. Choose to receive the grace that He is waiting to give you. Choose to take the first step in faith and let Him lead you.

The second we begin to move forward in making a change, an incredible power flows into our lives. Heavenly Father is there with us every step of the way. He will give us the strength we need to do hard things. Make the choice to let Him change you and your “peace will be as a river, and righteousness as waves of the sea.”
(1 Nephi 20:18)
